We Are D.S.O.C.
Improving the health, educational and economic outcomes of children, youth and families living in Aurora
The Dayton Street Opportunity Center is an economic and community
development non-profit incubator– a catalyst designed to eliminate violence and the opportunitygap for families through collective impact strategies, community organizing, direct services and after-school programming.
Why We Exist
Gun violence, food, healthcare and housing insecurity are the greatest obstacles to well-being for children and youth living in the Denver Metro Area. Between 2000 and 2023, the number of children living in poverty in Arapahoe County increased by over 200 percent, the largest rate of increase among Colorado counties.
The opportunity gap disproportionately impacts children living in low-income communities. The demographic inequalities that students living in North Aurora, Montebello, and Green Valley Ranch face in comparison to their white and middle-class peers put them at a disadvantage before they even enter school. When combined with health and educational disparities, students living in poverty have to overcome more challenges to have an equal chance at life’s opportunities.Gun violence, food, healthcare and housing insecurity are the greatest obstacles to well-being for children and youth living in the Denver Metro Area.
